Funding

Organizations must look at diversified funding sources to ensure financial sustainability. The resources in this section of our website are designed to give you basic information about how to access public and private funding. Public funding is obtained through the Federal, State and Local Government. Private funding is obtained from Foundations, Private Sector Companies and Philanthropic Organizations.

Advanced planning is the key to success for utilization of alternative funding sources. Most funding opportunities have short deadlines for submitting applications. Organizations should develop project plans for future funding by having their project descriptions, scope of work and tentative budgets ready so they can act quickly when funding becomes available.

The Commission promotes regional cooperation and fosters public and private partnerships among civic groups, government and business leaders. It advances community development, historic preservation, interpretive literature and signage,
scenic byways and regional tourism.

As a tool to help Mohawk Valley communities obtain the financial assistance they need to reach local economic and community development goals, the Commission has published the following guidebook.

Additional Tips:

Ø       Bidders Meetings – Workshops: In some cases the agency/organization that is providing the funding opportunity will present information to prospective applicants at a Bidders Meeting or Training Session. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants/bidders attend these meetings and workshops presenting by the funding entity. These sessions are intended to help you better understand the application requirements and often provide important information about Funding guidelines.

Ø       All applications to the Federal government for grant funding require your organization must complete the Grants.gov Central Contractor Registry (CCR) registration process and that you submit your DUNS number that is issued by Dun & Bradstreet. For CCR registration you can call (1-888-227-2423) or register online at http://www.ccr.gov/. There are two ways to check if your organization has a DUNS number or to obtain a DUNS number. You can use the special toll-free number for federal grant applicants: 1-866-705-5711. You can also register for a DUNS number via Dun & Bradstreet's website at  http://fedgov.dnd.com/

Ø       Be sure to back up to all electronic data. Also have a back up plan to submit any electronic applications from an alternate site in the event of a technology malfunction at your location.
